Challenge
Human drivers now often share the road with driverless vehicles, and tEcoCAR 3 was the featured 2015 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series. As North America’s premier collegiate automotive engineering competition, EcoCAR 3 challenged 16 North American university teams to redesign a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro by demonstrating emerging automotive technologies while still maintaining the performance expected from this iconic American car.
Summary
EcoCAR 3 was ASU’s first participation in the competition. Students are responsible for creating and meeting deliverable deadlines in areas of engineering, project management, and communications. Team membership allows students to earn credit toward their degrees and gain hands-on experience engineering, managing and creating communications content in an automotive industry-like setting.
In Year 1, ASU’s EcoCAR 3 team received awards for the Best Facilities Inspection and Clean Cities Collaboration. The team also received the MathWorks Modeling Award in both Years 2 and 3.
